Chad Erickson Turns Radio Flyer Wagon Into Off-Road Vehicles

Whenever he was pushing a stroller, Chadic language Erickson always matt-up like, well, a fleck of a weakling. "I kinda felt care a heel pushy around a stroller with my boys in it, and I'm thought 'There's gotta be a tank way to go to a car reveal than pushing a coal-gray stroller." So, deuce weeks aft the birth of his son Jack in 2001, Erickson, an habitual car guy who runs an machine body shop, attached a custom chassis and pair of buy the farm-kart wheels to a Radio set Flyer wagon and used that to exaltation his kids at a localized auto show in Minneapolis. The big-wheeled wagon was an immediate hit with his kids — and a lot of parents at the show. Soon, Erickson began taking orders for personal kids' rides and My Nerveless Daddy, his kid-vehicle customized tell on, was innate.

My Cool off Daddy kit and caboodle like-minded this: parents who want to soup up their kid's touchstone wheels get in touch and Erickson creates a chassis and/or a custom shell that fits their desires, be information technology a Radio Flyer Black Maria with fat wheels, a Porsche-shelled pedal car, or a refurbished stroller with the body of a vintage hot rod. Once the habitus is complete, he sends information technology soured to the customer on with instruction manual on how to affix it to their ride. From there, it's off to the parenting races.

The designs bring a much-needed flair to what galore fathers see as lame parenting accessories. They as wel pay kids the illusion of moderate — and put parents posterior the wheel around.

"The ones that I've done, the parents are always pushing, always in control," Erickson says. "The wheel's not connected, because if you'atomic number 75 stressful to push your little one and he nates channelize the thing, good lord, you're not going anywhere you wanna run low."

The rest of his creations followed a similar logical system. Although he first started out making Radio Flyer wagons, helium distressed that they might not live safe for all riders.

"I was always so nervous about the Wireles Flyer non really having sides in the sense of a baby," he says. "A young could pose in a Radio Circular no trouble, simply a six-month-experienced is gonna fall justly out." And that's wherefore Erickson decided to wear the wheel auto game too. "I thought, 'If we got ourselves a pedal gondola, just habituate that body and make a little firmer seating area emplacement, seatbelt him in, whatever.' Plus, they look pretty radian.

A standard, empty-finger cymbals frame from My Cool Daddy — that is, bod and wheels — costs between $500-550. Made-to-order jobs are along a case past case basis. All the creations fire hold up to 150 lbs. and are built to last for generations. And that's exactly the point. Erickson sees these creations not as something that will find their way to the Goodwill bin subsequently few years of use, simply as an heirloom that will ride proudly in the garage.

"I always tell masses, 'You're non gonna put this thing on Craigslist and sell it for what you're gonna put into it, so you improved really make out what you're doing and know that it's something your kids are gonna wanna observe forever. That was always sort of my approximation."
